“The War” is a song I wrote in 2015 after I was unceremoniously “let go” from my job at a church I helped start with my best friends 7 years earlier. I had no idea I was about to get fired… none of them told me I was in danger of losing my job, there were no warnings and there were no conversations about it until they read a letter to me that ended my dream of giving my life to that ministry. I felt bitterly betrayed. This song is a glimpse into that time of my life… the lyrics speak to what I would want to say to the men who read me that letter… the men who I thought were my “band of brothers” … the men who I thought would willingly walk into battle to defend each other and what we believed in.

Standing where I am today, I see that so much of what I’ve experienced over the last six years was necessary to get here. For as much as I can be thankful for it, the sting of the past doesn’t go away.

Life is a beautiful mess and a consequential journey. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
